“NAVAL GROUP” is awarded to construct corvettes for Romaina

According to Romanian sources, French Naval Group Company and its partner Santierul Naval Constanta (SNC) won the bid challenge for Gowind multi-mission corvettes for Romanian Navy. The Naval Group was selected to negotiate with Bucharest to finalize the contract. The French group had presented at the end of 2018 the best financial offer for the production of four Gowinds manufactured in Romania in partnership with the SNC yard, based in Constanta (East), for 1.2 billion euros, against 1.25 billion Dutch Damen and 1.34 billion Fincantieri.

The Gowinds will be armed with MBDA: VL-Mica (surface-to-air) and Exocet Block 3 (sea-to-sea) missiles.

With this program, they will upgrade Type 22 frigates and construct a training center in Romania as well.

Naval Group and SNC’s offer is based on the complementarities of their partnership, which will ensure Romania’s sovereignty and autonomy since SNC will receive the necessary know-how to support the complete life cycle of the corvettes, from building to maintenance and modernisation.

We don’t have information when they are going to start building ships and when they will meet with the water. But it’s certain that, after Romania empowered its navy with such strong ships, stability of Black Sea is possible to be effected.
