The Hellenic Navy Ship is used for National Elections

Warships are not used only for military purposes, but sometimes they are used for civilian missions as well, like civilian medical evacuation, humanitarian aid. These are out of their main function.

Today we witnessed an interesting incident at Greece. Residents of the island of Rhodes in the Dodecanese who vote on Kastellorizo were transferred to the remote island on Sunday aboard a Navy vessel.

A Navy warship conducted two trips – one in the morning and one in the early afternoon – from Rhodes to Kastellorizo to transfer some 80 voters to the remote island. Hellenic Coast Guard vessels assisted in the transfer.

Navies are not only assurance of peace, but also an assistant for maintaining democracy.
