Counting Down to Exercise Cutlass Express 2021

Exercise Cutlass Express 2021, sponsored by United States Africa Command and conducted by U.S. Naval Forces Africa, will take place July 26 to Aug. 6, 2021 along the East African coastal waters.

Exercise Cutlass Express

Exercise Cutlass Express, sponsored by U.S. Africa Command and conducted by U.S. Naval Forces Africa, is designed to assess and improve combined maritime law enforcement capacity and promote national and regional security in East Africa and to increase interoperability between the U.S., African, and international partners.

The objective of Cuttless Express is to train U.S. forces on visit, board, search, and seizure procedures, best practices, and interoperability with partner nations, while improving regional cooperation, Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA), information sharing between Maritime Operation Centers (MOCs), responsiveness of maritime assets, adherence to the rule of law, and counter-proliferation interdiction capabilities in order to disrupt illicit trafficking and piracy. Focused scenarios included the interdiction of illicit arms, drugs, money, natural resources, WMD material, and people that pose a threat to regional stability, to international partners, or that resource violent extremist organizations.
