Algerian Kilo Class Submarine Conducts Kalibr Missile Firing

The Algerian Navy has conducted live missile firings from two Kilo 636 class submarines on 29th September, in Oran (at western side of Algeria). The exercise, the first of its kind to target ground targets, was supervised by Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaïd Salah, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP) and Deputy Minister. National Defense, says DND.

In the scope of MISSILEX, submarines fired Club-S Kalibr cruise missiles.

With this firing exercise, Algerian Navy became the first Arabic navy that is capable to launch cruise missile from submarine to ground.

The Algerian submarine force consists of six submersibles in service, including four brand-new Kilo 636 and two Kilo 877EKM class, received in the 1980s and modernized in Russia between 2005 and 2010.
